A COASTAL MILKY WAY

This is a coastal Milky Way shot that I always thought it is hard to take from this area… near the sea.

The story and the execution:
On my way back home on Thursday night, when all the roads were blocked by protesters, I had no other choice than taking the seaside road to reach home… Arriving to that area, which I tried so many times to photograph the Milky Way over, but with no luck, too many attempts and plans had been made and no decent results at all.

Reaching that area around midnight, while driving, I noticed a clear sky above me, nothing I’ve ever seen before! I’ve never saw such a clear sky in this area.

I had to stop and look up the stars… the Milky Way was clear and I could see it with my naked eyes. It felt like I’m on some mountainous area, where I used to go to see that night beauty.
Taking a photograph of that night sky was a must!

I mounted the camera on my tripod. After some trials, I found my composition but it lacked something to make it better… so, I tried to wait for some passing cars to add light trails to my composition but there were no traffic at all.

I had to leave the camera and create the light trails myself! I connected the camera to my phone to control the shooting process; a trial executed to make secure the connection between the camera and my phone is properly working.

A 10 seconds timer set…

The lowest light on my van turned on in order to not overexpose the road and to let the camera capture my red back lights.

I had two choices: Either to carry on and drive home without any photograph, or to leave the camera alone, hence risking its safety, on the roadside (while driving my van to get those trails) and take my photograph.
The decision made: I drove on a pitch black road with no lights to get a photograph even if I had to risk my gear as well!
